 Enlisted in the Navy in1967 and went to Great Lakes Training for bootcamp. After bootcamp he was sent to Camp Lejune, NC for special forces training and also diving instruction. He became a 3rd class diver and also a Navy Seal and was on Seal Team 5. He served aboard the USS Arlington from 1968-1971. He was the lead singer of the ships band called the six o'clock gnues and was heard over radio Carl to the entire 7th fleet. He was there when they captured the Pueblo in 1968  and the entire 7th fleet went to Korea to attempt to rescue the Pueblo and the men. And also was there when they picked up the Apollo 11 space capsule and President Nixon spent 24 hours aboard the USS Arlington with the men and also the astronauts. He was in Vietnam from 1968-1971 as a demolition expert. 1971 he was transferred to the USS Boxer and was there until it was decomissioned and then he was sent back to Vietnam to finish out his tour and was discharged in 1972.
