   He was inducted into the Army on July 17, 1943. He left the United States on February 22, 1944 and arrived in Europe on March 3, 1944. He was in the Battle at Anzio in May 7, 1944 and then went to Cisterna, Italy on May 23, 1944. He was wounded while in Italy and was admitted to a Hospital for treatment of his wounds. He returned to duty and left the Middle Eastern Theater on August 17, 1944 for home. He arrived at the Welsh Convalescent Hospital in Daytona Beach, Fla in Sept. 1944 and remained until November 3, 1944. He was in 1yr, 3months, and 14 days. He received the following medals: European-African Middle Eastern, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star, 2 Purple Hearts and was in the 3rd Division under Mark Clark.
